Camera Make & Model in Description field

I have noticed this with a couple of cameras and a scanner, that despite there being specific fields for Camera Make & Model they also write the information to the description field.

Is this just vanity on the manufacturers' part, because Description is a commonly visible field in most apps, whereas Camera Make & Model are not?  Or is there a logical reason for this (I am rapidly learning that 'logic' is not a meaningful word in the world of metadata.)

There probably isn't a logically reason.  Possibly laziness, not wanting to learn to code to the proper metadata standard, or just an emphasis on their own (often proprietary) maker notes.
