What is the difference between Creation Date and Media Create Date

I am using exiftool to extract the creation timestamp from videos uploaded by participants in a study. I am trying to determine the difference between Creation Date and Media Create Date, I want to use the most accurate one.

I've come across a few videos where there is a five minute difference between Creation Date and Media Create Date. What are the differences between the two tags and which one is the best one to use?

It is hard to tell without knowing where the information came from.  Try this command:

exiftool -time:all -a -G1 FILE

Also, you may try adding -api quicktimeutc to the command -- this will handle the time zone better if the times were stored properly.
