XMP Error

I've run this a thousand times, but this time seem to be getting an error. What am I doing wrong?


exiftool -xmp:datetimeoriginal<xmp:datecreated /Users/dgood/2018-04-22\ 12.51.06.xmp

I'm dragging and dropping the xmp sidecar onto the terminal window, so I know the path & filename are accurate.
