orientation anomaly

I don't think I've asked about this before - I did a search and couldn't find anything.  I'm not complaining, just asking about it. :)

Starting with what the photo has:
exiftool -a -G1 -orientation dscf2094.jpg
[IFD0]          Orientation                     : Horizontal (normal)
[IFD1]          Orientation                     : Horizontal (normal)


then, if I delete the orientation

exiftool  -orientation= dscf2094.jpg
1 image files updated

But -orientation shows the other one

exiftool -orientation dscf2094.jpg
Orientation                     : Horizontal (normal)

And -orientation= won't delete it

exiftool  -orientation= dscf2094.jpg
    0 image files updated
    1 image files unchanged


If -orientation shows it, shouldn't -orientation= remove it?
