I recently updated to ExifToolGui 5.0, great program to add geotags to my photos.
But there is a hic, I now have to edit all my photos with a command line in the ExifTool Direct Panel >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(.
I will have to re-learn the tag once again or use ExifToolGui 3.38 which doe the job perfectly :).
So now I need ExifToolGui 3.38 & 5.02 :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[.
Sorry if I look frustrated but command line programming dates from my years with CPM precursor of DOS and Windows. In those time we had to have multiple batches to start a program with different types of inputs.

Hi,

I don't understand... what do you mean by you must "edit all your photos with ExifTool direct panel now"?  As it is now in GUIv5, you can edit any Exif/Xmp/Iptc tag without touching ExifTool direct panel -in case, you are you talking about missing [ ^ ] buttons. Did you read the manual here (see: Workspace manager there)? That is, Workspace on Metadata panel is fully customizable, where you define which tags you wish/need to modify...
I'm ready to help, but could you be more specific?

Hi Bogdan

I am reluctant to post a question because I am sure that it is something that I am doing wrong BUT when I select a file in FileList, then open EXIFTool direct, call-up a predefined command and move the cursor to the command line, I seem to lose the file selection. ( I am doing this to save the original file name elsewhere before renaming the file so that I can return to the original in the event of a disaster)

Pressing Enter seems to run the command against all files but then comes back with "x files failed condition". If I retain the file selection, the file properly opens in Photoshop. Oddly, the command seems to work OK in Version 4 so I am presently using both V4 and V5.

I am using XP SP3

Hi,

No, you're not doing something wrong: it's the difference between WinXP and Win7 -I mean, in Win7, selected files remain selected when entering into ExifTool direct panel (or elsewhere). That is, because here (on Win7) everything seems to be ok, I didn't check after possible differences on WinXP.
As it is, GUI isn't much of use on WinXP and I would expect, such cases would be reported on very first v5 release. Anyway, this will be fixed in GUI v5.03, which will be available within next hour -because, yes, it is important.

Thank you for reporting,
Bogdan

Added: GUI v5.03 is ready for download.

Hi,

Everything's fine. I am aware that there's a quite change in v5 and at first sight.. things are missing  :)

Hi Bogdan,
first of all thanks for your work, also to Phil.
I started with v3.38 I found by using Google a few days ago - it worked fine for me and I had a busy weekend ... :)
Then I noticed v5 - quite a change and after few hours I got Workspace the way I like it.

But I still need the old version because after many hours today reading the docs I cannot find out how to get the options
- Modify => XMP: copy from IPTC ... / and vice versa
- XMP: DateTime copy from EXIF ...
- Export/Import => Import XMP Metadata ...

sorry, I seem to be to stupid understanding all those parameters and regex in the doc.

Background:
XMP sidecar files seem to be the only way to put Metadata to different file formats.
I have lots of RAW files, but there are also a lot of TIF files I converted from the RAW files and processed afterwards with picture window.
So I want to do tagging on the RAW files, export them to .xmp and then reimport to the postprocessed TIF files also.

I also want to get basic tags of IPTC and XMP in sync since some imaging software looses XMP when saving the modified image - in this case at least IPTC is still there.

Thanks for any advice - I'd like to stick to v5 for my complete workflow.
