Looking for any applications to add, edit & search 100+ keywords

After my last post regarding the limits on metadata, I scoured the internet to find a application which would let me add, edit and search a library of files with those lists of keywords.

The suggested tag/location was as XMP:Subject

Thus far I have come up empty.

ExiftoolGUI would seem to come closest for editing, but the edit window - even if 'enlarged' - seems 'a bit restrictive'.
Searching seems to be another problem altogether.

Have I missed something in ExiftoolGUI or does anyone have any suggestions for any available applications - commercial, if nothing else is available?

TIA

I take it you're editing these by hand, so you want a GUI?  What about Adobe Bridge?

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).

Thank you, Phil.

Yes, I prefer GUIs as much of the work will be interactive, rather than batch - mainly because the data I want to add will be extracted visually by humans.

I have looked at Adobe apps a bit, but have trouble wrapping my head around the many different apps they offer and the way they
would fit my needs.
As well, I do not want to participate in the CC world - and that is all they are pushing these days. :'(

If you're using windows, you might check into Google's Picasa.  It's free, has a reasonably easy GUI interface, and writes keywords to XMP:subject.  In the past, I believe it ignored some metadata such as makers notes (not sure if it still does) but from your previous post it sounds like you might be scanning so that doesn't seem like it would be a problem for you.  Additionally, it has facial recognition capability, which might help with the tagging you mentioned previously.

"It didn't work" isn't helpful. What was the exact command used and the output.
Read FAQ #3 and use that cmd
Please use the Code button for exiftool output

Please include your OS/Exiftool version/filetype

Thank you, StarGeek.

I had given Picasa a try, but found it too hard to find the specific file I was looking for. Aside from that, I had also heard about some of its problems with handling Metadata from other sources and nothing to make me feel comfortable that the issues had been addressed and fixed, so I am still a bit cautious about using it.
Their face recognition is interesting and perhaps it will have me reconsider. Maybe with time & use, the interface will become a bit easier to understand and let me find files when I need them.

Meanwhile, I have bought ACDSee family pack because I was favorably impressed by several things.
One was the ease with which I was able to edit and fix/correct existing keywords added by tests with other software as well as adding new keywords.
Another were the editing facilities which allowed me to rescue scans of slides which would have been almost unusable because the faces were underexposed and remove specks and other 'imperfections' of slides which had been sitting in a drawer for  'ages'.
