ExifTool will only automatically read a config file if it is named ".ExifTool_config".  So it wouldn't read "old.exiftool_config" unless the -config option was used.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).
