Hi Phil,

This seems awesome, can't wait to try it..

One question re your point...

"4) Generate NewName based on the start time, end time, duration, and the original file name (with the time removed if the time was taken from the file name)."

I might be reading your intention wrong but I wouldn't want the time removed from the filename in the .avi files ...
but rather the new info inserted between the original filename date time (finish time after length added) then (duration) then remainder of the filename

as in...

the new file name would simply be the old filename with the new stop time and then length inserted in the middle after the original date time part.

So the result would look like

1996-12-01  15-28 20 - 16-40 35 - [01-12 15] - DV A-02

where "1996-12-01  15-28 20" is the original filename date time

Just being sure as the start date time is already set in the filename, I just wanted stop time then length added to that before the original tape location info "DV A-02" which is also left as-is.

Cheers Phil, I'll let you know how I get along and many, many thanks for your efforts

It is removed because otherwise it would appear twice (because I am adding the start time, end time and duration).  The end result should be what you want.

Yes.  Very sad.

Edit: I'm not sure if I added the extra space that you wanted after the date.  You may need to edit the config file to add this if I forgot.  (It is bed time now, or I'd check on this.)

Hi Phil...

Newbie-itus again....

I have your newname config file....

I have a folder with copies of all the file types for a rename test.....

I have no idea what to do next as I can't figure out how to operate ExifTool, other than drop a file on it for readout

so, how to I run the config file to do the tasks...

Looking at other forum posts I did the regedit change to run cmd from any folders contex menu

so ran cmd from folder with my rename test
dropped your newname config file onto it

and result was "error : Unknown file type

I wondered if it was connecting to Exiftool so dropped Exiftool.exe (9.88) onto it then the config and got

"The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect."

Gonna need the "ExifTool for Dummies" step by step procedure for this for both launching the Exiftool and applying the Config to it to run the task,

and how to direct it to the folder I want it to work on , or run it from within that folder...

I'm... Lost..

cheers

Hi RokkoRokko,

Did you read this Getting Started post at the top of the Newbies board?
