Pentax new teleconverter recognition

In the past I have assumed Pentax DSLRs store up to 20 autofocus fine tuning correction data sets within the camera's memory dependend on the lens ID. That is a unique identifier I thought.

But with the advent of the new HD DA x1,4 teleconverter this changed.

Now you can store different AF fine tuning data for
a) a lens alone
b) a lens plus the teleconverter

So obviously the camera has to recognize the existence of the TC as such. And this only happens with this one TC model.

Now I wonder of that is coded into a tag somewhere other than the two differing focal length data we discussed recently.

Good question.  I'm away for the weekend but I'll take a look at the images you sent to look for this later.

This shows the extender status for all of my test samples:

exiftool -U -Pentax_LensRec_0x0003 FILE

But I don't have many samples, and I can't test with other extenders.  Maybe you can check this for a wider variety of images.

I have tested this with about 30 pictures with teleconverter and about 40 pictures without teleconverter and the ones with it always had a "1", while the ones without always had a "0" in. I used 5 different lenses.
Seems you found it.  :)

This recognition even works when no lens at all is attached.

It does get unpredictable when non AF lenses are attached. Sometimes I got a 1 and sometimes a 0. I could not see any logic.

Great, thanks for checking.  I'll add this too.

Is that in v10.02 now?

I cant find any entry for this (at least not via exiftoolgui in the "all" view).

Phil Harvey

Yes.  It is called ExtenderStatus, and should be in 10.02.

Ah, Thanks. I was looking a "Teleconverter", not an "extender"...
