Fix Error Error reading PreviewImage

Hallo,
if I write Exif I get the error: Warning: [minor] Error reading PreviewImage from file - "File"

When I run the command ExifTool -PreviewImage FILE I get Warning: [minor] Error reading PreviewImage from file - FILE

If I would like to delete the PreviewImange I run the comand Exiftool -overwrite_original -PreviewImage= FILE I get the message "Image updated", but if I run the command ExifTool -PreviewImage FILE again I get the same error.
How can I delete the PreviewImange permanetly and fix the error?
