I have many Iphone 10 photos with missing correct exif creation date. For example this photo was taken on 2020:7:29 (Looking in my agenda, it was an import event).

What am I doing wrong? I'd like to organize my photos in <year><month><day> folders and this leads me to issues.

I'm starting the think it might has to do something with dropbox. I have been uploading some of my photos automatically to dropbox.

Looks like i use .heic originally and when uploading to dropbox it gets to .jpg and removing some exif data  :(

Phil Harvey

All I can say is that this definitely isn't an original iPhone JPG image.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).

That seems to be a very strange for Dropbox to be changing the format of the image, but it looks like it's an option.  See here.

Have you checked to see if the originals are still on the phone?

Otherwise, there isn't any time data in the file to fix it with and the filename isn't a timestamp.
"It didn't work" isn't helpful. What was the exact command used and the output.
Read FAQ #3 and use that cmd
Please use the Code button for exiftool output

Please include your OS/Exiftool version/filetype

After testing with one photo with dropbox camera upload (iphone X to dropbox) it does not indicate it's changing the EXIF data. Thats the good news. Have to look further what has gone wrong in my setup..
