I was originally trying to edit audio files (.mp3, .m4a) metadata, but I can't even do it for images or any file for that matter

I installed ExifToolGUI properly and I can see all the minutia from the tags, but I simply can't edit anything

Not even something as simple as the file name

I tried running the program as Administrator, I pressed Enter and right clicked on the metadata fields

Nothing

Please help

See the List of supported file types.  ExifTool can't write to MP3, but it can write some M4A metadata.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).

As I said earlier, I can't edit ANY file metadata whatsoever

That includes the most basic of basic file formats

It should be pointed out that, as per the Stickied thread in the ExiftoolGUI subforum, that the GUI no longer has support by its author.  It's been unsupported for nearly a decade.

If you have a command from the command line that isn't working, then we can help figure out what's wrong.
"It didn't work" isn't helpful. What was the exact command used and the output.
Read FAQ #3 and use that cmd
Please use the Code button for exiftool output

Please include your OS/Exiftool version/filetype
