Is AVI supported by ExifTool

Dear Experts,

I'm new to ExifTool. When I typed the following command,

Code Select Expand

exiftool "-FileName<XMP-xmp:CreateDate" -d "%Y-%m-%d %H%M%S%%-c.%%e" .
The result said 0 image files read. My folder has some avi files. And I checked that avi is in the supported file list. I had to add -ext avi for the command to work.

Can anyone please tell me why?

Thank you very much for your answer. I only saw avi is in the table, but didn't notice the R and R/W options.
