Hi,

I got a problem, I converted all my RAW in DNG, but I don't like that in fact.. So with Exiftool I get all XMP from the DNG and with the RAW i thought it was Ok in Lightroom. But when I import the RAW , Lightroom does't read the XMP.. How can I do?

Lightroom see the XMP file..

Thanks for all!

My guess is that LightRoom may be looking for the XMP in a sidecar file.

You could search this forum to see if anyone else had this problem.

Actually LR should be able to read the metadata from the raw images just fine. However, if LR already knew about them you need to tell LR to update the metadata. On top of that, make sure you don't also have a sidecar .xmp file for those files (or make sure you wrote the metadata to them instead of the rasw files) as then I think LR will give priority to the xmp, rendering the updates to your raw files unused.

That said, it's still best to in this case write the metadata to the sidecar and not the raw files since that is what LR will make use of later anyway.

Curious though why you went back from dng to normal raw? My workflow is now completely DNG and I like it. Admittedly, I would have stuck with normal raw if it wasn't for one very important aspect: DNG allows me to have the embedded preview updated to reflect the edits I made. This I require for my workflow since it allows me use a single file to work with; no need to save to e.g. jpg to be able to see/use the (edit) results.

I can't speak for Guillaume, but I prefer the original raw for the specific reason that LightRoom will tamper with the DNG without my consent.  There may be some setting to prevent this, but by default LR thinks it has permission to rewrite my original DNG files, which I really don't agree with.
