My mac screen and the photo 2560 wide, see attached screen grab.

The Nikon software at 100% gets it almost correct.

However, the preview app on the mac displays "actual size" much bigger and it does not fit the screen.  Similarly, opening the file in Firefox show and greater than 100% view.

Is this a phenonenon cause by the mac retina screen trying to be too clever?

Yes.  I have the same problem.  LightRoom shows 100% images at half the size of Preview.  I imagine that LightRoom is using the actual pixels, while Preview uses the scaled pixels.  A bit of a pain I agree, but I like the size the Preview shows because it will be what most other people see on normal-resolution monitors.  So I just zoom to 200% in LightRoom for the equivalent.  Software really needs an extra setting for this.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).
