Hi guys;

just wanted to say thank you for Exiftool itself and for the help in this forum! I am using exiftool for a long time now, but started just recently to do more task with the tool. The fast and full help I enjoyed here is really great. No comments like "use the search function" or something like this, eventhough I probably had some newbee questions. Thumps up!

This is something that really ticks me off about a lot of help forums.  If someone is brand new, first post here or only a few posts, I have no problem explaining what to do and I try to give a lot of links so they can read up and learn on their own.  There's a lot of documentation here and it can be quite overwhelming, especially to someone who hasn't learned the command line.
"It didn't work" isn't helpful. What was the exact command used and the output.
Read FAQ #3 and use that cmd

Hi Martin,

I'm glad you find ExifTool useful.

And yes, thanks to StarGeek from me too for his great help answering questions in this forum.  He gives much better and more detailed answers than I.  Most of the time I feel that I am just a dynamic index into the documentation, but StarGeek takes the time to explain things in detail.

I would like to echo Martin and give a sincere thank you! I cannot believe how handy this tool is -- it has saved me literally days of work, mostly unraveling things that other software platforms, even supposedly high-end platforms (cough, cough adobe) seem unable to do correctly.

Yes, Phil and StarGeek and many other users are awesome at patiently answering the most basic FAQs and also the most esoteric questions here. Not the arrogant behavior in some similar forums.

I have learned by osmosis and have tried to answer some basic questions to the best of my knowledge to offload some burden from them. I confess that sometimes I have started to make an answer but then cancelled it thinking "in 10 seconds StarGeek will provide a better answer so it is best not to embarrass myself". Often my answers tend to be either too terse or too long including everything and the kitchen sink. Here the questions are quite good but in other forums the lack of details make a question ambiguous and impossible to answer without many questions, and often the original poster then answers only one of them anyway. Sometimes the fix might be a simple reboot but it is somehow embarrassing to ask if OP has tried that or fiddled the related setting OFF/ON. ...oh, sorry I digress again...

@wywh:  I appreciate your contributions to this forum.

All questions and responses here provide good feedback for me, and are a main driving factor for new features, bug fixes, and improvements to the documentation.  Incorrect responses are useful because they often illustrate areas where ExifTool or its documentation may be improved.  So different viewpoints are valuable, even if StarGeek may later provide a more comprehensive answer to the question. :)

Yes, so many "help" forums/subreddits just respond with RTFM. But when the person is asking "simple" questions, it usually means they're completely new to the subject and don't know the correct terms that they need to search for. And a significant amount of questions here are one and done. The person came here looking for help in fixing a problem, and they will never be seen again. Even though there might be multiple posts on the exact same thing, I just help them and move on. They don't end up frustrated and angry and it at least reduces a small amount of stress in their lives.

There's been multiple times when I was going to answer a post and then see that you have done so and skip over the question. I'll skim over your post to make sure there's major errors, but there rarely are.

Have you not seen my posts :D   If I can, I'll link to a previous post on the subject and other times I'll spend a significant amount of time writing something up.
