If you're watching the new Netflix series "The Night Agent", keep an eye out for the two main characters (Rose, a cybersecurity expert, and Peter, an FBI agent) to use ExifTool in episode 9 (at 16:26 to be exact).  There is a quick close-up of the screen when Rose extracts metadata from an image to determine when the picture was taken, and the ExifTool output is clearly visible.  As it happens, the date/time she obtained was a filesystem time, and not metadata at all, but it's the thought that counts.

Yes! Caught it yesterday. They're using a pretty recent version: 12.41

That was so awesome to see.  I enjoyed the show, too.  I love it when they are realistic with computer stuff!

Kudos for the exposure!

ExifTool was also used by the heros of a French serie : Stalk. The adventure of an IT student who decide to stalk other student for revenge.
see https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalk
If interested, I may try to find the exact episode but... it seems to be only available in French.

Interesting, thanks.  If you know the exact episode, maybe you could add a note to the ExifTool Wikipedia page:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExifTool#In_media

Ha, yes! I caught this too!... You're (even more) famous Phil! 🙂

-- Good show btw (1-off, 10 episodes), would recommend it if anyone has a few hours to kill

Just finished bingewatching. Excellent show.

Apparently it didn't live up to Wikipedia standards because this section was recently deleted from the Wikipedia ExifTool page:

No wonder Russian cybersecurity specialists keep an eye on any bugs in your tool too, given the fact the tool has been featuring in the hands of the intelligence community increasingly often lately even in the movies  :)  I ain't from the cybersecurity or intelligence circles, but have seen some recent articles about how to exploit exitool's bugs in a popular Russian xakep (stands for hacker) online magazine

Right.  And I guess that's a good reason to keep your version of ExifTool up to date since these are exploiting a long-since-patched vulnerability.
