Is there a tag that maps to the MacOS Finder "Location" Attribute? I tried IPTC:Sub-location, XMP-iptcCore:Location, and XMP-iptcExt:LocationShownSublocation, but they don't work. (MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1, ExifTool 12.95)
Thanks

StarGeek

I'm not on a Mac, so I can't test it, but you could try the test file I use to figure out such things. Download the zip file in this post and extract the JPEG. Then test it with finder and see if your location shows up.

The test file has over 1,400 tags in it, and most of the tags are filled with the name of the tag. For example, the IPTC:Sub-location tag has a value of "IPTC:Sub-location".
"It didn't work" isn't helpful. What was the exact command used and the output.
Read FAQ #3 and use that cmd
Please use the Code button for exiftool output

Please include your OS/Exiftool version/filetype

I get this on MacOS Mojave in the Finder:

Thanks Phil & StarGeek. I get the same results Phil. City, State and Country populate just fine, but the Location isn't searchable via the Finder "Location" Attribute. By location, I mean point of interest. However, when I populate IPTC:Sub-location, XMP-iptcCore:Location, and XMP-iptcExt:LocationShownSublocation, the value is displayed when I open with the Preview.app. See the attached image, item outlined in red. I'm guessing the item outlined in pink may be the value that the Finder "Location" Attribute searches for.

I tried to insert my image file so it would display in my post like yours Phil, but I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong.

StarGeek

I inlined your image.

I just posted about a couple ways to inline the image in this post.

And this post has some images about attaching and inlining the image.

Thanks StarGeek. I started this process, but didn't finish it.
