I have installed EXIFTOOL on my Mac Studio, and it's working well.

When I drag an ARW file to Terminal... I can't see the shutter count as a listing.

Can anyone help??

StarGeek

What version of exiftool?
exiftool -ver

What model is the camera?

Can you share a sample file?
"It didn't work" isn't helpful. What was the exact command used and the output.
Read FAQ #3 and use that cmd
Please use the Code button for exiftool output

Please include your OS/Exiftool version/filetype

Latest version of exiftool. Mac OS 15.41

Camera is Sony A1 Mark II.

I get all the metadata... but shutter count is not there.

This tag was added for the Sony A1 II in ExifTool version 13.19.

When you drag the file to the terminal what version of ExifTool does it display?

Otherwise maybe you could share a link to an image file.

Thanks!

I will check later and send.

Here you go... no shutter count listed.

You can use something like Dropbox, Mega.nz or Google Drive to share the file. If you use Google Drive, make sure the link isn't restricted. See this post.

WeTransfer is another site I've seen used, and I think there's a free option. I think it also has the advantage of automatically deleting the file after a few days.

I have no real answer but your file has almost the same format as a file from DPR for the same camera - except that the DPR sample has the following set of tags which your camera doesn't have:

< [Sony]          ShutterCount                    :    217
< [Sony]          SonyExposureTime                : 1/51
< [Sony]          SonyFNumber                    : 0.0
< [Sony]          ReleaseMode2                    : Normal
< [Sony]          InternalSerialNumber            : 00000000a20c

The only other significant difference I can see is the firmware version - perhaps Sony made a change?

Strange!!

This is probably something Phil will have to look at to see if the format of the MakerNotes has changed. He may require a few images in sequence to figure out what changes from image to image.

The ShutterCount is stored encrypted in this record at offset 10 (0x0a hex).

But your version 2.000 firmware gives this:

  | | | 114) Sony_0x9050 = ................g.......h........................g..........[snip]
  | | |     - Tag 0x9050 (256 bytes, undef[256]):

  | | |         a8be: 6d ff ff ff ff ff 6d 6d ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff [m.....mm........]
  | | |         [snip 176 bytes]

It looks like the encryption may have changed.  But certainly there is nothing useful any more at offset 10.  :(

If you upload a few (say 7) images in sequence as StarGeek suggests I can take a look to see if I can find the new location.
