I am using ExifTool under Geosetter (I haven't yet been able to get ExifToolGUI to save anything).

One of six tabs is Categories/Keywords but I can't find any reference on how to use this either in the descriptions or the forum. Keywords that have come from IDimager, my database, show up. Is there some way to get keywords from a controlled vocabulary?

I don't think there is a way to pre-define keywords like this in ExifToolGUI, but I could be wrong.

I have moved this to the GUI forum because you may have better luck there.

Hi,

I'm trying to understand: IDimager has written some Keywords/Categories into images (or into IDimager's database?). Now, GeoSetter doesn't show those tags/values? At this point, I'm not sure if this is GUI related...

Phil,
I never tried with "pre-defined keywords", but I was somehow sure that, if ExifTool can display something, then this will also show up in GUI.

Hi Bogdan,

A set of controlled-vocabulary keywords is something that would be an additional feature of a GUI, and not built into ExifTool.  Lightroom does this for instance.  I'm not saying that you should add it, but it could work like this:

Whenever a user enters a keyword, the GUI tries to complete the keyword as he is typing by looking up the string in a set of user-defined keywords that have been previously defined (ie. "Animal", "Person", "Holiday", etc).  The app could use an auto-completion type feature with a popup menu to suggest matching keywords.  If the final keyword entered didn't match any pre-defined keywords, the app could pop up a dialog telling the user this is not a pre-defined keyword and asking him if he wants to add it to the pre-defined list.  You then would also need a new option to allow this pre-defined (controlled vocabulary) list to be displayed and add or delete new keywords manually.

I hope this makes sense.

I think this is what the original poster meant.

Hi Phil,

Aaahh..  vocabulary! -I understand now. Yes, it's in most database driven DAM's.

GeoSetter saves these keywords in the config.ini. You will find this file in the following directory: <AppData>\GeoSetter
