I recently had a situation where Nikon View NX2 version 2.3 corrupted several thousand images from  D4 and D800 cameras. The images were originally imported via Apple's Aperture. All was well until I decided to try Nikon View NX2 v2.3 to add Keywords and captions to the images. I was on assignment and in a remote location and did not realize I had not downloaded the newest version of Nikon View NX2 v2.5. Nikon View NX2 v2.3 had no problem with seeing the D4 and D800 images and allowing me to access them to write metadata. Before I worked with them in Nikon View NX2 the D800 files were 46.5MB each. After accessing them with Nikon View NX2 the NEF was reduced to 2.7MB. When opened in Nikon Capture NX2 they were only 1632x1080 @72 dpi. as opposed to 7360x4912 @ 300dpi. I have no idea what happened but obviously something did happen. I'm tried the program that was written for the corruption problem that took place do to Nikon Transfer software but it didn't help. However, I think something happened similar to the Nikon Transfer issue. Any ideas out there to help resurrect my NEF's.  :-[

I tried uploading a damaged image but an error occurred saying the attachment did not pass admin security.

Judging from the difference in file size, the RAW image data must be at least partially deleted (more likely totally).  If true, the only way to recover the data is with disk recovery software.  Here is a different situation where in this case View NX 2.5 appears to have deleted the RAW image data.

If you want me to verify this, you can email the image to philharvey66 at gmail.com

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).
