Hi All,

I have been aware of ExifTool for sometime but have only recently decided to learn more. Please note that I have a few questions.

1. If including the ExifTool as part of a software distribution, for example a Mac or Windows shareware program, where should the applicable executable and library be installed? Can it be in a subfolder of the particular application?

2. I presume the "exif" file and its associated "lib" folder are all that are needed for inclusion in the distribution?

3. Are there any good links related to #1 and #2 above? (I have been looking on the ExifTool Web site for information, but for a newbie, it is quite daunting.)

Thanks kindly,

- Floridude

Wherever you want.  A subfolder in the app is fine.

"exiftool" and "lib".  Yes.  But on Windows you need Perl to run "exiftool", so in this case it may be easier to use the pre-packaged Windows version and rename it to "exiftool.exe" because it bundles Perl in the app.

Sorry, I don't know of any.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the information--and for moving the topic to a more appropriate location. After my post yesterday, I downloaded the Mac installation and got it working.

Keep up the great work, and I am sure I will have further questions.

Sincerely,

Keith (a.k.a. "Floridude")
