Repairing Errors and Warnings Found by Exiftool

Hello!

First, I would like to extend a huge thank you because exiftool has saved me days, if not years, of my life with the exif data clean up it has enabled for me on my personal photos, both digital originals, as well as scans back to 1984. 

I'm hoping to fix the two error messages, and at least the invalid date/time and no writable warning messages below.

I ran three very similar exiftool commands in succession to set alldates to the earliest/oldest date I had in the photo metadata for my library, in the commands and output below I replaced the directory path with DIR and the photo name with photo, these are samples from the output so there are other photo extensions as well:
exiftool -r "-alldates<datetimeoriginal" -if "($datetimeoriginal le $modifydate) and ($datetimeoriginal le $createdate)" "DIR" -overwrite_original_in_place
  528 directories scanned
  343 files failed condition
28972 image files updated
  498 image files unchanged
    2 files weren't updated due to errors

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also of note, I'm not entering new dates or shifting their values, just copying the earliest date in the metadata to alldates.

Indication of corrupted or otherwise weird maker notes in the file.

Looks like the datetime original in this file is corrupt. What does exiftool -a -G0:1 -DateTimeOriginal on that file give you?

Looks like the specified date fields do not exist for these files. Extract the info (with -a -G0:1 options) and have a look at the output.

Can be ignored: these indicate a heavily edited files (>1000 steps).

Less worried about these as they appear to have been fixed by exiftool (thank you):

The exiftool output for both looks ok (just weird layer names in the psd one), but the errors definitely indicate some problem with the file. If you can still view it and it looks OK, you might be fine. But perhaps it is a good idea to check if you have a backup of the files that don't have these problems...

As you can see, the date fields are empty, causing the error when using their value when writing alldates. Just give them an appropriate value and you should be fine.

Can be ignored: these indicate a heavily edited files (>1000 steps).

Wow, I've done some edits, but not sure I've edited any specific image >1000 times. Hmm.

That large number is quite easily gotten if you use e.g., the spot removal or adjustment brushes.

I was able to write values to the date fields that were blank and so they didn't copy, such as createdate from my second command.

Otherwise things look good to go! I'm ok with the large edit step value, and it makes sense due to adjustment brushes.
