p.s. I see the same Lens is assigned at 220 in (https://exiftool.org/TagNames/Canon.html) but maybe this is also Model related.

Yes, I think the lens type number may change with lens firmware.  There are likely a large number of other lenses out there which also use the value of 255.  I'll add this one for the next release.

Hello Phil,

I found a RAW image (*.ORF)  taken by OMDS camera OM-1 with following entries:
ExifIFD:LensModel:  OM 40-150mm F4.0
MakerNotes:LensModel: OM 40-150mm F4.0
MakerNotes:LensType: Unknown(0 37 10)

I am sure it must be lens: M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm F4.0 PRO

Thanks.  I'm wondering about what model name to use.  Most other Tokina lenses in ExifTool have an AT-X designation.  From this review I see "MACRO 100 F2.8 D" printed on the lens, but according to Ken Rockwell Tokina calls this a "Tokina AT-X PRO 100mm F2.8 D Macro", which is the name I'll use in ExifTool unless you tell me differently.  I'm hoping this is the same lens.

Here's what I'm seeing currently

Is there a convenient way to add this LensType to my user configuration as a workaround in the meantime?

I came across a second lens:

  • manufacturer name: HD PENTAX-D FA MACRO 100mm F2.8 ED AW (product page)
  • camera: Pentax
  • lens type: 7 58 (maybe?)

ExifTool is identifying these images as Pentax's previous 100mm macro.

$ exiftool -g1 -LensType -LensID IMGP8245.DNG
---- Pentax ----
Lens Type                       : smc PENTAX-D FA Macro 100mm F2.8 WR
---- Composite ----
Lens ID                         : smc PENTAX-D FA Macro 100mm F2.8 WR

Does this mean that Pentax uses the same lens type for this and their older older version 100mm macro?

Please let me know if any further info on this lens would be helpful.

Thanks.  The Irix will appear in the next release (12.67).

And yes, it does seem that Pentax is using the same lens ID for the updated 100mm macro.  I'll note this in the code, but I'm not going to change the string.

Thanks! Unfortunate that Pentax isn't making this easier, but maintaining the existing behavior seems good.

For owners of the HD 100mm AW, will there be a way to get the correct output?

This section in the example config jumped out to me

@Image::ExifTool::UserDefined::Lenses = (
    'Sigma AF 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC',
    'Tokina AF193-2 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5',
);

but it seems like that (probably) wouldn't fit the bill.
